Introducing the Niryo Ned2 Collaborative Robot. The Ned2 is a compact desktop 6-axis collaborative robot based on ROS, Robot Operating System. Ideal for secondary education, vocational schools, universities, community colleges, training centers, and Industry 5.0, the Ned2 provides a great opportunity to teach programming, mechanical engineering, control theory and more.
Easy to set up with a large ecosystem of learning applications, the Ned2 is the educative solution for everyone who wants to teach or learn through robotics.
Robotics for Everyone
Beginners without any coding experience are able to control the Ned2 through Niryo Studio, a free downloadable software that is compatible with Windows, MacOS and Linux. From this interface, you can connect directly to the robot and check hardware statuses, create different work spaces for your projects, and use different accessories. Niryo Studio also provides an introduction to Blockly code. Students will have the ability to create loops, use variables, math, and even use the object detection AI provided with the Vision-Set.
As skill levels increase, you’ll be able to unlock more Ned2 capabilities with two integrated Python APIs. Code directly in Python from NiryoStudio, and send commands to the Ned2 hardware without going through the hassle of using ROS topics and services.
A wide range of additional APIs are also available, and come with plenty of examples and tutorials to show you everything that’s possible with the Ned2 robot. APIs include:
- Matlab – for automation control theory
- Arduino – can be plugged into the Raspberry Pi to control the robot from a distance with a Arduino controller
- Modbus TCP – easily plug the Ned2 into an already existing network of PLCs and computers which use the Modbus TCP communication program
- Or use virtually any programming languages you’d like since the Ned2 is constantly running a TCP IP server
